The final tally of funds raised for Malta Services Drogheda by The Run Of The Country motorcycle tour 2016 was a tremendous €7280. All credit to the 30 bikers who partook in the event and raised this amount of money for services to adults with intellectual disabilities in the Drogheda area.
The event was a 310km tour of the counties Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny and Laois. The day had a dull start for the first stage. There was a downpour on the M50 that made the road quite slippy and reducing visibility. Fortunately on leaving the M50 the weather started to clear and the road to the first check point in Blessington was pleasant. The weather improved and the riders arrived in Carnew, Co. Wicklow in the sunshine for the second checkpoint. The bikers were in great form and headed for the Carrick-on-Suir through the wonderful Irish countryside. The last leg of the trip was to Portlaoise for the dinner and prize giving. The 2017 tour was a great success and everyone enjoyed the trip.
Claire Byrne Director of Services Malta Services Drogheda said “The funds will go directly to users of the service to enable them to achieve personal goals, a fantastic opportunity that could only be undertaken with the support of the bikers”.
The Run of The Country is indebted to its core sponsors Height For Hire, Kennedy Motorcycles and Tuite Butchers, all of whom have supported the event since its foundation in 2010. Other sponsors included Marks and Spencers, Newbridge Silver, Glalnbia, Boyne Valley Foods, Belview Eggs and Tesco.
“This is the 7th Run of The Country and I am delighted with the continued success of the event. Everybody home safe and lots of funds raised for a very worthwhile local charity. Great feedback from the riders and they are looking forward to the 2017 tour”, said Michael McCormick, the organiser of the event.
“Another very successful motor bike run and a big thank you to all of the bikers for their great efforts” says Harry McArdle of Height for Hire who sponsors the event.
“This is a terrific local motor bike event. I’m really happy that we helped raise €7280 for Malta Services”, says sponsor Jimmy Kennedy of Kennedy Motorcycles.
“I’m delighted to send the riders off with a great cooked breakfast of quality rashers and sausages from Tuite Butchers. It set them up for the day and they did a great job” said Eddie Tuite of Tuite butchers.
