2016 The south east

2016 The south east.Stage 1 to Blessington 51 miles 1 hour

Drogheda Dublin, Tallaght, Blessington.
The first stage of this years rune is a a dull run up to Dublin and an around the M50. Exit 11 and the N81 to Blessington is a nice run up the foothills of the wicklow mountains. Unfortunately, there was a fifteen minute deluge in which some of the riders were caught and drenched so early on in the run.

It was not a great start to the day for some but the worst of the weather was over.

State 2 to Carnew 51 miles 1hour 30min

Blessington, Laragh, Rathdrum, Aughrim, Carnew

This were the fun starts. Crossing over the Blessington lakes through Vallymount, over the Wicklow Gap and into Laragh is a traditional Sunday morning run for chaps from Dublin and is a wonderful biking road with excellent views over the Wicklow hills. The road to Rathdrum is a narrow forest road. It is wonderful road. The rest of the route to Carnew is a joy to ride. The sun came out and dried us all out.

Stage 3 to Carrick on Suir 61 miles 1hour 41 min.

Carnew, Buncloady, Kiltealy, Ballymurphy, Graiguenamanagh, Inistoge, Thomastown, Knocktoper, Newmarket, Kilmaganny, Carrick on Suir.

This is the sunny south east and these are some of the best biking roads in the county. Carrick on Suir was the most extreme south of the run. The weather was fine although it was a challenge to follow the route instructions for some everyone got to the checkpoint eventually.

Stage 4 to Portlaoise. 56 miles 1 hour 30 minutes.

Carrick on Suie, Ninemilehouse, Mullinahone Urlingford, Johnstown, Durrow, Abbeyleix, Portlaoise.

This was a great final let to the run. It was interesting to see how some of the riders took opposite routes from the check points. The All Ireland footballl final was on and some riders decided they wanted to take the express route to the hotel to see the came. Mind you some got lost and missed the match completely.

The final stage was another series of wonderful quiet country roads through south Leinster.
